Fish 979 (Season 20,780) Returns 261 (3,918) Rod average 3.75 (5.3)

Mixed reports from anglers this week as fish have been feeding hard on pin and jelly fry. Many anglers have spoken about how hard they have found it to tempt fish, yet those that have persevered have been well rewarded.

The lucky ones found the best methods were to watch for rising fish and to keep casting and try to place their fly in front of them. It’s all about patience with a bit of luck mixed in. Your target is like a needle in a haystack so placing that fly where the fish will grab it is key. The fry are sub-surface so dries and small fry patterns have been working.

The Clarke party enjoyed a 3 day boat package. Between them the group managed 50 fish caught and released, one of which was a notable 6lb brown. They found all their fish in the mouth of Manton Bay.

Best boat areas have been Manton Bay across to Cattle Trough and up to the bunds wall, New Zealand Point, Sailing Club Bay, Sykes frontage, Fantasy and Carrot Creek.

The best bank areas have been Sykes Lane when the frontage isn’t busy; so first and last thing, Stockie Bay, Whitwell Creek, Ernies Point, East Creek, Normanton to Fantasy.

Tuesday Night Boat League week 7:

16 anglers took part with Chris Evans taking top spot with a bag of 11lb 10½oz , 2nd was Keith Jones with 10lb 9oz; 3rd was Rick Cooper with 10lb 8¼oz. Best fish of the night went to Ady Naylor with a 5lb 3½oz brown.
