Rutland Water week ending 25 April

Fish week 1,583 (Season 5,809) Returns 194 (574) Rod average 8.15 (10.1)

Another fantastic week’s sport at Rutland Water for both bank and boat anglers! Buzzers fished washing line style, straight lined or under the indicator have accounted for the majority of catches this week. The week’s best Rainbow was recorded at 5lb 3oz and numbers of quality grown on browns returned to 7lb.

Once again the North Arm has provided the most consistent sport with Barnsdale steep bank, Dickensons and Burley all holding plenty of fish. Yellowstone, Gibbets Gorse, Old Hall Bay, Green Bank and Hideaway Bay have been the areas to head to down the South arm.

The relatively light winds and reasonable temperatures have in general brought the fish higher in the water column. Floating lines or midge tips have been the choice of many with the afore mentioned washing line set up incorporating a FAB on the point and buzzers up the cast. There have been days when the fish have been lying deeper and that is worth bearing in mind whilst there have also been days where the presentation 10-12 foot has been required.

Bank anglers continue to have good sport especially in the evening when good rises are occurring. Old Hall, Green Bank, the Mound and the dam have all been favourable areas with buzzers, diawl bach and dries such as a Shipmans coming into their own during the evening session. Prospects look good for the week ahead with another 2,000 rainbows being introduced to ensure the fine sport continues.
