Fish 833 (Season 9,133) Returns 133(399) Rod average 6.26 (4.71)

The main basin has provided boat anglers with exceptional sport this week with double figure numbers of fish to the boat recorded by many, reflected in the 6.26 rod average for the week. Pulling tactics have been the preferred method with FABS and boobies taking the majority of fish with plenty of ‘colour’, tequila FAB’s/boobies being a good starting point.

Anglers should be looking at the top 2 feet in the basin, a fast glass has been a favourite line for the week with tip lines coming into their own on days with a gentle breeze allowing the flies to be fished slower. The tower to the buoy line on the dam through open water is holding a lot of fish that are certainly up for a chase, giving great visual sport often as soon as the flies hit the water. Yellowstone, Sailing Club Bay and Church Bay have also produced for anglers on the boats. The bright weather of last week didn’t help bank anglers but fish were taken from Whitwell creek to stocky bay and also Fantasy Island and the dam wall itself.

Quality grown on rainbows and specimen browns have also featured to anglers venturing down the South Arm, in particular Manton Bay to Hideaway. The weedbeds can be targeted with floating lines (suspender minkie/floating fry/daddies) or by pushing out into deeper water on the edge of the submerged weed beds where a di7 and humungus can be fished deep for those specimens holding in deeper water.
