Fish 137 Returns 48 Rod average 2.85
The tough start to the season continued last week with the big westerly winds preventing boats from going out. Although limited on fishable bank, Whitwell Creek and East Creek produced for bank anglers who ventured out last week. As we head into the new week conditions are considerably better.
Ade Naylor reported taking a fine rainbow of 4lb 2oz from East Creek on an intermediate line and black Humungus. Graham Hayward fished Whitwell Creek during the week and took 20 rainbows in a session – black and green tadpole, long leader to get down and a slow retrieve the tactics. Tom Cooper fished Whitwell after work on Tuesday and recorded 7 nice rainbows for his efforts.
Boats went out on Sunday 17th for the first time after the enforced ‘wind break’ with anglers reporting plenty of fish in Church Bay and off East Creek. Highlight of the week was Toff Crowther taking a new personal best rainbow of 6lb 11oz, congratulations from everyone at the lodge! The superb overwintered specimen fell to a perch pattern from the harbour wall, what a great way to get the season’s best list going!
Prospects for the week ahead look good with a better weather forecast and a further 5,250 fish stocked bringing the season total to 17,250. 2,000 of those were quality browns of exceptional quality which we look forward to seeing grow on into some of Rutland’s finest!
