Rutland Water week ending 16 August

Quality Browns at Rutland

We have seen some very variable weather conditions this week ranging from very hot md week to heavy rain and mist at the weekend. Few anglers braved the intense heat and bright sun mid week, though anglers were still catching with some quality Browns including six over the 6lb mark (returned). The best Rainbow of the week was a mint condition 5½lb specimen that was recorded last Tuesday.

The aerators have been switched off for a few days now, so fish have spread out well in the main basin with a mixture of blobs, nymphs and dries are accounting for these fish. The Browns have mostly been caught around the north arm with several of our anglers taking Browns to 7lb. Fry patterns are working well with plenty of fry in evidence this season.

The cooler weather forecast this coming week should see more anglers about with plenty of weedbeds to investigate with fish showing around them (even in the severe heat of last week). Snails, shrimp, corixa and of course this year’s fry, are in abundance and prospects are very good.

Don’t forget our sunset ticket option for an evening on the bank - £12 (1fish+c&r) from 6pm. Available from the ranger’s office (cash only).

Beginners Courses:22 & 30 August; 4,6,12,20 & 23 September and other dates throughout the season. Please call lodge on 01780 686441.
