Quality Rainbows at Rutland Water

Although the tackle shop is closed during lockdown we are still available to take enquiries or for sales over the phone. Please call 01780 686442; open 8am to 2pm.

Quality fish have been showing off the banks at Rutland this week. As to be expected at this time of year suspender minkie and floating fry have been used to good effect by anglers to take rainbows up to 7lb with plenty at 3lb plus. It is important to stay mobile and work the chosen bank and don’t ignore the margins. Many fish have been taken within 15 yards of the bank as the fish cruise the marginal weed line picking off fry, snail and shrimp. Always take the time to cast along the bank and short to start with as these fish will venture into very shallow water when there is no disturbance on the bank. It is still relatively mild for the time of year and a washing line set up with FAB on the point and hares ear and or diawl bachs/hoppers has also taken fish, best fished static and allowed to fish round on the breeze.

Bank tickets can be purchased by calling the lodge on 01780 686441 or cash payments at the self-service huts at Whitwell and Normanton. Once inside the car park call the fishing lodge 8am-2pm to validate your parking ticket.

Best bank areas: Best areas from the bank this week have been Ernies Point and Whitwell Creek, East Creek to Normanton frontage, The Fishing Lodge Harbour, X buoy area of the Normanton Bank and Barnhill Creek.
