Fish 293 (Season 25,597) Returns 98 (4,646) Rod average 2.98 (5.5)
Boat anglers fared best last week with Wednesday and Thursday producing good numbers of fish including limits and some specimen Browns. Toff Crowther and Graham Hayward got amongst the specimen Browns at Rutland again, the pair are the most consistent big fish catchers on the reservoir. They caught two over 7lb with Graham catching the heaviest at 8lb. Toff and Graham also put some practice in on Saturday for the AWAI Northern final fished on Monday 16th, catching another 8 or 9 Rainbows up to just under 4lb from the aerators.
The main activity was drifts from the buoy; limits from the dam (all across the width from Normanton Fantasy island and the corner of Sykes Lane).
Surprisingly a lot of fish were taken off the top on dries with fish moving in the early overcast/cloudy conditions on both days.
Brothers Kevin and Richard Height, had a good day around the aerators with around eleven fish (Rainbows) with a few of them in the 3-4lb bracket, with Kevin netting a 4lb 3oz specimen – the best fish of the week.
The long lasting North/North East winds finally gave way at the weekend moving to light westerly, this in turn made things a lot harder with very little boat movement pushing the anglers onto fresh fish.
Very few bank anglers have been out due to the intense heat, fish were seen moving off the dam but hard to connect with.
Tuesday night boat league week 10
Paul Wild won the most recent heat of this popular series taking four Rainbows, including the best on the night at 3lb. Paul Baker took second place with two fish for 8lb 3¼oz, Rich Cooper was third with four fish for 8lb ½oz. Keith Jones retains his narrow lead at the top of the league just four points ahead of Rich Cooper.
EFFA versus RAF 5 July
All boats in this match fished between Sykes Lane and Fantasy Island and 50 yards off the dam wall. Anglers were able to take advantage of the overcast conditions which continued until about 1pm with several anglers bagging up by this time. Up until 1pm fish were on top and floating lines, fabs, small boobies and cormorants worked well.
After 1pm fish went down with fast glass working best. Conditions changed again around 4pm with fish coming back on the surface and anglers opting for floating line. Foam daddies proved effective, with fish also taking buzzers with FAB on the point.
In total 15 anglers took their bag limits. The best bag of eight fish went to Peter Hartley fishing for EFFA. The match was won by the RAF who took four more fish than EFFA.
