Fish week 278 (Season 28,478) Returns 76 (4,446) Rod average 3.65 (6.4)

We saw a vast improvement in fishing with some good bags of fish being caught last week. Fish are being caught on floating fry and popper minks over the weed beds from both the boat and bank; these reports show that the fish are starting to move out of open water and back in towards the banks. The boils have continued to provide good sport with a good number of bag limits coming from in and around the general area of the aerators.

Anglers fishing Normanton bank have caught well drifting open water with washing lines and lures. Other areas that have produced fish have been buoy 14, Barnhill Creek, The Sailing Club Bay, Sykes Lane, the dam wall and New Zealand Point. The  largest fish of the week was a 13lb brown trout taken and safely returned on a fry pattern alongside other grown on fish. High winds have benefitted our rudder anglers this week with many catching good bags of fish. Two of our regular boat anglers finished early on Mon 16th with each taking their limit before 1pm.

We should see some great fishing within the next couple of weeks as more fish turn to the weed beds for food as well as some heavy stocking as we go into September and the cooler months to ensure a bumper Autumn and Winter.

Tuesday Night Boat League
The final match of the league was fished last week and went right ‘down to the wire’. Going into the final day four anglers were in with a chance of taking the title. We had 11 anglers fishing on the night all of whom voted for "No fishing the boils" before going out.
19 fish were caught overall, with the last 1½ hours or so frustratingly difficult with flat calm conditions, making things even more testing.
Rik Cooper won the final evening with the best bag, Vince Sparrow won the boat prize for the best fish, second on the night though was Dave Currie, earning seven points.
It was those points however that were enough to seal the title for Dave, taking the plaudits as everybody congratulated him on becoming the 2021 champion!

Final top six places in the league
Dave Currie 68 points
Rik Cooper 62
Gary Cooper 52
Keith Jones 50
Mick Bennett 48
Vince Sparrow 32

Overall in the thirteen weeks of the league, there were eight different winners of the "best fish" boat prize. Many thanks to all that supported and took part this season, look forward to seeing you again next year
