Ravensthorpe Water week ending 8 March

Rod average 3.5

The highlight of opening day was a hefty 12lb 14oz fish caught by the valve block on the dam from a boat. It was challenging when Ravensthorpe opened on 28 February with coloured water reducing visibility. However, the water is now showing signs of waking up after a wet winter.

The bank fishing has begun to pick up with platforms two to five fishing well. As the coloured water clears boats are also catching. Three generations of one family fished at the weekend managing 22 fish between them with the best going to 11lb 3oz. Several boats are recording catches of around eight fish.

Most success has come to fishing black and green lures on slow sinking lines. Some fish have fallen to bloodworm and buzzer patterns when small hatches occurred in milder conditions.
