Pitsford Water week ending 9 August

Fish 159 (Season 5,226) Returns 32 (829) Rod average 4.96 (6.3)

It has been another great week on Pitsford in spite of the weather conditions with a rod average of 4.96 and a season’s best Brown trout of 11lb 6oz.

The boat fishing has been very good with anglers reporting catching fish on dries in the middle of the day even in the current heat wave.

Floating and midge tip lines are still proving best with the fish still seeming to be in the top two to three feet.

By far the biggest fish of the week and the season’s best to date was a Brown trout of 11lb 6oz by an angler from St Albans. Whilst a lovely Brown of 5lb fell to a recent graduate from one of our beginners courses.

There have been several rainbows in the 4-5lb bracket recorded this week. Charlie Watts and his boat partner enjoyed a great morning session boating 15 fish using washing line tactics with a blob and nymphs. Kevin Garn and his boat partner fished flash back nymphs to boat over 20 fish from the main basin. One of our anglers fished on Friday and remarked that he caught on dries during the hottest part of the day catching 11 fish in total.

The bank is proving more challenging but is still worth a go. Some of our local anglers have been catching consistently on dries fished around the weedbeds.

Best Rainbow: 5lb (returned).

Best Brown: 11lb 6oz

Fish stocked: 1,500.

Beginners Courses:14,23 & 28 August; 10 & 19 September and other dates throughout the season. Please call 01604 781350.
