Pitsford Water week ending 7 October

Fish 757 (Season 9,948) Returns 143 (2,104) Rod average 5.3 (4.72)

Pitsford is fishing well with a rod average of 5.3 for the week. Many of the 757 fish caught were over the 3lb mark.

Both bank and boat are fishing really well with fish feeding hard on fry, shrimp and snails. Browns are now showing in numbers and are in top condition.

There have been many notable catches. Tom Finney fished from a boat and had a number of Browns over 5lb including some fine specimens of 6lb 8oz and 6lb 12oz and the best fish of the week at 7lb 4oz.

P Costin took the best Rainbow of the week - a superb specimen of 4lb 12oz. A 5lb Brown went to Jay O’Neil and a 6lb Brown to Ian Hopwell. Dave Merrick recorded a 6lb 4oz Brown and a 3lb 4oz Rainbow. Good bags of fish fell to Andy Birkett who had 11 fish on fry patterns fishing catch and release. Alex Urquhart had 12 fish from the bank up to 3lb 8oz.

All areas of the lake are now holding fish and with a further stocking of 2,000 fish next week good sport looks set to continue.

On Thursday Pitsford hosted the English Fly Fishers Association with 31 anglers catching 172 fish for a rod average of 5.5. David Moore was top rod with a ten fish limit and total weight of 20lb 7oz. Dave Froggatt had the best fish with a 3lb 8oz Rainbow.

On Sunday the local Mid Northants Fly Fishers held their annual Fur and Feather match. 22 Anglers caught 112 fish for an average of 5.0. This match was fished to a 5 fish limit. Les Yarnall won with 5 fish for 14lb 10oz. Hank Needham was second with 5 fish for 12lb 11oz, which included the best fish a Brown of 4lb 7oz.

Mid Northants Trout Fishers Association are hosting open taster sessions on Saturdays as follows

13 October 2-5pm; 3 November and 1 December 1-4pm.
