Pitsford Water week ending 3 April

Fish week 436 (Season 822) Returns 62 (147) Rod average 7.0 (5.6)

Despite the changeable weather conditions Pitsford has fished extremely well this week from both boat and bank with some fantastic early season catches.

Anglers have reported fish showing and feeding in the surface even though the weather has turned cold and frosty. There have been huge numbers of buzzer still coming off and methods involving black buzzers have continued to catch.

It has been noticeable from speaking to anglers that one angler can be catching on small buzzers on floating or sink tip lines while his boat partner is catching on a sunk line and small lures, which suggests that the fish are at various depths through the water column.

Some of the notable catches include Browns to 9lb and a bonus Pike of 31½lb. This angler’s bag included 30 Rainbows, 4 Browns and a couple of Pike; all fish carefully returned. In the words of another angler “Pitsford is on fire!” - he managed 9 Rainbows and a 4lb Brown – all returned.

Two anglers sharing a boat drifted out from Brixworth Bay and landed 50 plus fish between them. They found fish on Di7 lines with booby and FAB.

Best areas for both boat and bank anglers have been Rigbys, Pines, Brixworth Bay, Cliffs, Sailing Club and dam wall.

From 1 April Browns are back in season and anglers can once again fish some of the ‘small half’ of the lake.

Best Brown: 9lb.
