It has been a frustrating start to the new season on Pitsford with the fish unwilling to play for the most part.
The pre season stocking of 3000 fish supplemented the stockings of late last year when weather conditions dictated that these fish were largely not fished for.
Opening weekend saw some anglers catch well with a few reporting double figures of fish caught but for the majority it was difficult. It seemed that the stocked fish were tightly shoaled and if you had fish infront of you it was easy. This was the case in Pitsford Creek where there were plenty of fish caught but many other areas struggled.
Over this week there have been fish caught along the Pines and Gravel bank with the odd overwintered fish being reported.
Best method from the bank has been Floating or Intermediate lines with the usual early season combinations of black and green lure type patterns with a blob on the dropper for the recent stockies. The overwintered fish have come to more imitation patterns such as Shrimp and buzzer or bloodworm patterns.
Boat anglers have reported fish 60-80 yards from the banks and these fish have been deeper, appearing to be feeding on the Shrimp in the weedbeds.
With a further stocking this week and the much more settled conditions it is hoped that the fish will stir and begin to feed more freely.
