Fish week 868 (Season 1,636) Returns 138 (253) Rod average 6.3 (6.4)

It has been a cracking week on Pitsford with the milder weather improving catches for bank anglers and the boat anglers continuing to have the lion’s share of the fish. Although the best fish of the week; a fine 10lb Rainbow, was caught from the bank. This superb fish, along with another at 4lb 4oz, was caught on an intermediate line and black snake. Another bank angler caught 22 fish, releasing 14.

One of the best days enjoyed this week was one of our the boat anglers who had terrific sport catching 38 fish, with most being released.

Pitsford Water hosted a couple of club friendly matches recently with the Mid Northants Fly Fishers fishing for the Bruce Richardson Trophy. 22 anglers caught and released 153 fish, using a measuring system to avoid a weigh in. The top rod had four fish measuring 1890mm. Included in this was a stunning rainbow estimated at around 7lb. The longest recorded fish was another rainbow measuring 595mm.

The Foresters Fly Boys also held a club outing with 15 anglers taking to the water. They caught 110 fish, releasing 70. The best fish were a Rainbow of 6lb 4oz and a Brown of 5lb 4oz.

The best methods this week are intermediate lines with olive or black lures or floating or midge tip lines with buzzers on long leaders.

Fish are well spread across the lake but the best boat areas are Sailing Club, Pitsford Creek and the dam.
