Pitsford Water week ending 22 August

Fish week 188 (Season 8,244) Returns 47 (1,372) Rod average 4.0 (6.1)

Pitsford is fishing to a rod average of 4 with some great catches, but mixed fortunes have meant some quieter days. This week we have had anglers catching 20 plus fish from the bank on shrimp patterns and the following day has been a struggle. The story is the same for the boat anglers.

Long drifts in the main basin are the most productive, allowing anglers to cover a lot of water; with no features such as inlets or large aerators to attract and hold fish they are well spread out across the basin and you can drift over several pods each drift.

Fish are in the top two feet and willing to take various flies if presented high in the water, though not all that willing to come to dries on top. By far the best method has been washing line tactics on floating lines with small flies out fishing the bigger stuff. Red diawls, green crunchers and black diawls will take fish whiles FAB’s or small boobies are accounting for good numbers too.

From the bank the best areas are Gravels, Pines and Sailing Club bank.
