Fish week 123 (Season 9,507) Returns 35 (1,718) Rod average 3.5(5.5)

Brown trout are showing up in increasing numbers at Pitsford, with many anglers reporting fish in peak condition and willing to take a fly. Sadly, the Rainbows continue to be harder to tempt.

Some fish are now starting to come to shrimp patterns with Pitsford Creek and the Flats being productive from the bank.

One angler had great success finding the big resident Browns with two trips to Pitsford resulting in 11 fish up to 8lb caught and released.

On Sunday the Mid Northants FFC held the club’s annual Bob Church Trophy match. 22 anglers caught 58 fish, fishing to a four fish kill format with no Brown trout to be killed. This was a shame for Richard Webb who caught a stunning Brown of around 7-8lb which was released. The match was won by Fraser Duffy Junior who recorded four fish for 10lb 9oz. Second place was taken by a bag of 9lb 1oz with third place coming in at 7lb 12oz. All participants enjoyed a curry afterwards and prizes were awarded to all.

Pitsford Water is hosting its Fur & Feather match on Sunday 7 November. This is a pair’s boat match, to book a place please call the fishing lodge on 01604 781350.

Best Brown: Estimated at 8lb.
