Pitsford Water Week Ending 16th June 2024

Rod Average - 3.0

Pitsford had been in a bit of a slump with the rod average falling but a scheduled stocking seems to have stirred the residents up with some lovely fish being reported over the last few days.

The boat fishing appears to have been better than from the banks with lots of fish reported in the main basin and around the dam and Flats.

Once again the best methods are to fish flies high in the water with dries accounting for lots of fish but also washing line tactics with nymphs also fishing well.

The water hosted a rudder match on Saturday and although the conditions were far from ideal the match fished to a rod average of 5 with the winning method being Olive Snakes fished on Fast Glass lines. The best fish of the match was a Rainbow of 5lb2oz and the best bag was 32lb12oz.

The Waller party had a day on the water on Friday and the group fished to a rod average of over 4 with some nice fish caught on dries or nymphs fished high in the water. The group reported a Rainbow of 6lb taken on dries and also a nice Brown of 3lb4oz.

The stocking of 3000 Rainbows will be backed up by two further stocking in the coming weeks while the water temperature is still cool and this should ensure the improved sport will continue.
