Pitsford Water week ending 10 October

Fish week 195 (Season 9,384) Returns 49 (1,683) Rod average 3.9 (5.6)

The rod average at Pitsford has improved as the water starts to cool and the fish are slowly responding. Season ticket holder Simon Ashton came in search of the big Browns and had three fish from 5lb upwards, with the best weighing 6lb 8oz. The Brown trout seem to be the first to respond to the changing conditions with several reports of good fish in the 5lb to 8lb range being caught, most being returned to grow on.

Bank sport is also slowly improving, particularly around Pitsford Creek and the Flats where there has been consistent sport. Gravels, Rigbys and Cliffs have also produced for bank anglers.

The boat anglers are still finding most of their fish in the Main Basin and top of the Narrows around E and F Buoys.

The best methods are either popper fry patterns or daddy imitations fished on floating lines around the margins.

If in open water in the basin then long drifts fishing washing line tactics are picking up fish with drifts along the Sailing Club bank or Pines being the most productive. There have also been some good buzzer hatches and small black or olive buzzers have scored well, fished behind a small booby or FAB on point.

Best Brown: 6lb 8oz taken by Simon Ashton.
