Fish week 628 (Season 1,450) Returns 63 (210) Rod average 10 (6.9)

Pitsford Water is on fire at the moment with a rod average for the week of 10!

The buzzer hatches have been incredible, even with the morning frosts and the fish are feeding hard throughout the day but really peaking between lunchtime and 4pm.

Numerous anglers have reported epic days of sport with double figures and even boats recording catches of up to 40 plus fish.

Notable catches this week include one angler reporting 18 fish including a Brown trout estimated at 6-7lb with all fish returned safely. A couple of boat anglers enjoyed a “fantastic day” boating 38 fish on diawls, buzzers and crunchers.

Last Sunday the Mid Northants Trout Fishers’ Association held the club’s Bruce Richardson Trophy boat competition. 18 anglers enjoyed a great day catching 128 fish for a rod average of 7.1. Fished to a catch and release format with all fish measured and returned, two anglers shared the top spot, each catching 17 fish with their first four fish measuring 177cm. Third place went to an angler with 15 fish with a four fish length of 175cm.

Buzzers in black and now olive are doing best along with small diawl bachs and crunchers with small black muskins being particularly effective.

For those who prefer to fish lure patterns small black and green lures such as Pitsford Pea are working, along with small minkies and similar.
