News from Pitsford’s opening weekend
Conditions were good, with mild temperatures and fantastic water clarity across most of the lake.
However, for the majority of anglers the fish were not playing ball. There were odd ones and twos but, for the most part, the recently stocked 5,500 fish remained elusive. Notable exceptions to this were Phil Jordan who boat fished and did find fish about 100 yards off the Sailing Club bank. Phil fished fry patterns on a Di5 to tempt several fish. He said that although recently stocked, he had fish up to 3lb plus.
Anglian Water staff member Mark Mathieson fished from the bank at the Gravels. Having noticed some small black buzzers coming off, he fished a team of size 12 and 14 buzzers on a washing line method and was rewarded with six lovely over wintered fish up to around 5lb, and in superb condition.
Bob Aves also fished the Gravels and had a cracking brown trout estimated between 6-7lb which took a small Pitsford Pea. Season ticket holders Bob Collins and Steve Osborn have had success along Rigbys and Sermons.
