Grafham Water week ending 8 August

Fish week 362 Returns 79 Rod average 4.6

The past week at Grafham has seen mixed results with some anglers bagging up by lunchtime, whilst others have found it more challenging. The best boat spots have been anywhere along the south side of the dam right through to A buoy. The inlet has also been producing some fantastic action.

One of our regular anglers has visited us a few times this week and caught his limit every time. His catch included the best fish of the week a magnificent 6lb 7oz Rainbow taken on a tube fly. The north shore has fished well in patches and on Monday one of our season ticket holders reported a red letter day at Deep Water Point. He fished holographic crunchers on a floating line with a fab on the point. This resulted in over 20 fish to the boat with multiple 4lb fish amongst those caught.

The key at the moment seems to be finding the fish on the day; as those who do are enjoying some fantastic sport. Washing lines with a booby or fab on the point stripped back to create a wake will catch bags of trout if you can find them on the day.

Bank fishing is starting to pick up again, especially early morning and late evening. The best area would be the Dam, but there have been plenty of fish caught from the Seat and Hill Farm. A couple of good fish were taken from the harbour arms last Saturday evening. These were taken on fry patterns and a sinking line cast tight to the moored boats, which is no surprise considering the abundance of fry now present in the harbour.

Best Rainbow: 6lb 7oz

Best Brown: 5lb 5oz.

Forthcoming events: World Predator Classic 14 & 15 August
