Grafham Water week ending 4th August 2024

Rod average - 2.0

The warm weather from last week has carried into this week with water temperatures remaining above 20 degrees high up in the water and in the shallow bays though cooler water can be found in the deeper areas of the reservoir. This has caused the fish to keep themselves in deeper cooler water most of the time but many moving into the weed beds to feed on snail, shrimp and fry for small amounts of time before returning back into deeper water.

Fish have been caught in both areas of the lake with some having success on small nymphs and dries around the margins and weed beds but the percentage method has been deep sinking lines with boobies or lures fished very slowly.

From the boat fish have been picked up at the stumps, the basin as well as sludge bank and the seat but for best chances the aerator is the best bet as the water temperature is lower and also highly oxygenated.

From the bank g buoy and the rest north shore has given some anglers success using predominantly washing line methods with hairs ears however fishing from the bank has remained very tough so we recommend early morning sessions or late evening for the highest chance of success.

This week we hosted the youth international match with Ireland coming out on top with 24 fish followed by Scotland with 21, England with 15 and Wales with 9 all producing great results considering the conditions. Algae is still present in much or the reservoir and as mentioned  in last weeks report you can fish beneath it targeting fish deeper down or move upwind to clearer areas.
