Grafham Water week ending 3rd September 2023

Fish killed & released 120, Returns - 34, Rod average - 3.4

Grafham has fished quite well despite the changeable weather and wind directions.

The Dam is now open for the early starters and closes at 9am. The dam is closed on bank / school holidays and on the weekends.

Best chance for bank anglers is early and late as the sun is off the water the fish will come in close and are taking shrimp and fry. During the bright hot day’s the fish are well out but still surprisingly high in the water.

The boat anglers have been doing well on floating line or a six foot slow tip line with a washing line set up. The usual red headed hare’s ear or diawl bach on the droppers seems standard but the point fly needs changing until you find the right one – anything from sparkler boobies, cut-throat cat boobies, yellow and white boobies, foam daddies or the usual fabs are all worth a try.

Predator anglers seem to have had a tough start to the lure season probably due to the water temperature (too warm) and the proliferation of bait fish giving an easy meal. There have been a few zander reported but little news of the perch or pike.
