Grafham Water week ending 22 September

Fish 557 (Season 11,863) Returns 170 (2,744) Rod average 5.6 (4.32)

The past week at Grafham has seen an upturn in sport with many anglers managing to bag up by lunch. The rod average for the week is a very respectable 5.6 and the biggest fish caught was a 6lb Rainbow taken on a diawl bach. Gaynes Cove and the Seat have been producing plenty of fish for both bank and boat anglers. The best method at the moment seems to be fishing a shrimp pattern close to the shore or along the dam wall on a slow retrieve.

Dropping water levels have also enabled bank anglers to wade out to known hot spots such as G buoy. These are normally only accessible by boat. So if you fancy a day on the bank this week should be a very productive time to do so. Please beware of deep or soft mud if wading out.

The Willows has fished well with one angler catching 15 fish to 4lb all taken on small buzzer patterns in three hours of fishing.

The predator fishing has slowed down a bit due to angling pressure, but some of the regulars are still catching pike to 20lb on a frequent basis. The perch fishing has been really good with fish up to 4lb 4oz reported and multiple 3lb plus fish taken at the north tower.

Over the coming week we expect the fishing to improve further due to the weather conditions and fish stocking, so if you can get down for a day there should be plenty of action to be had.

Grafham Water Championship 21 September

Grafham hosted the AWAI Grafham Championship on Saturday in what turned out to be a hotly contested match. With 60 anglers catching 453 fish for a fantastic rod average of 7.55! Just 3lb separated the top 3 teams!

Congratulations to Team Vision who ran out winners, although none of their team had their limit, the team all performed consistently well, with no one in the team catching under 7 fish, which meant they just pipped Llanilar AA by just over 1lb.

Top rod was Steve Doherty of the Welsh Wizards, one of 10 anglers who bagged 12 fish, in Steve's case by 2.48pm! Biggest fish went to Kenneth O'Keefe, a cracking rainbow of exactly 4lbs.

Congratulations to everyone who took part and made it such a great match and of course to this year's champions Team Vision.

2nd     Lllanilar AA                      54 fish for 106lb 13oz
