Fish week 529 Returns 132 Rod average 4.0
Grafham is moving into its productive autumn/winter period with shrimp and fry feeders showing close in all around the reservoir with boat and bank anglers reporting fantastic sport. The trout have yet to fully come on to the shrimp but there are plenty that have switched on with a rod average of 4 for this week set to climb as more trout move into the margins
Very similar tactics are working for both boat and bank anglers with either a shrimp attack or fry pattern attack. With the fish feeding in the top couple of feet – a washing line set up with a fab or booby on the point and shrimp, hares' ear or Diawl Bach up the line. There are days when Red Holo Diawl Bach will out-fish a shrimp pattern 2 or 3 to 1, yet the spooned trout are rammed full of shrimp. Floating shrimp fished singly is working well when fish are showing on the surface.
For the fry feeders – popper fry twitched across the surface has seen some fantastic overwintered fish taken, particularly on the North end of the Dam. Minkies, Zonkers and snakes are also working well.
As ever keep an eye on the wind direction if bank angling and plan your trip accordingly; in a northerly anywhere along the north shore will produce fish from the Stumps all the way round to the dam. Hot spots are Deep Water Point, G the Willows and the dam. In a Southerly Plummer, the Seat and the south end of the dam are worth a look and some nice fish have come off the harbour arms as well.
Boat anglers are advised to reverse the bank tactics – fish the North shore in a Southerly and the South shore in a Northerly.
Predator fishing continues to go well with plenty of zander to low doubles and several 20lb plus pike being reported. Perch still continue to be a bit elusive but if you find them a specimen is always on the cards.
