Fish week 247 Returns 61 Rod average 4.0
The recent warm and bright conditions, combined with little to no wind have made fishing challenging. However, Grafham is set to return to form this week as the water has cleared and cooler weather is forecast. This is particularly good news for boat anglers.
There has been some good sport in front of the nature reserve. There seems to be more clear water there than anywhere else. All the usual points along the north shore have started to clear. The water clarity by G marker is gin clear.
From A marker to the south end of the dam is well worth a try. Washing line tactics and buzzers fished deep have both accounted for catches of over 20 fish. The boils have been on continuously for the past few days so it would be wise to take advantage of this and drift nearby. Please remember not to anchor on the boils.
In this current hot weather bank angling is best early or late in the day. Fish appear to be switching off the feed or moving well out of casting range in the middle of the day. Washing line with crunchers, diawl bach have been accounting for some very good fish.
Grafham Water hosted Perchmania at the weekend. The event went off extremely well with high numbers of perch and zander being caught. One of our rangers took part and recorded perch up to 4lb and zander to 12lb.
On a serious note to all those anglers fishing for pike on the fly, please remember they are delicate fish that need looking after, especially at this time of year in high temperatures. Handle with care and only take out of the water if absolutely necessary.
