About Grafham

It was built to meet the water needs of the new town of Milton Keynes, plus those of existing Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire towns which were expanding rapidly at the time.

A major recreation site, Grafham Water has evolved over the last 20 years to now attract visitors from all over the East, South East and Central Midlands.

We welcome over 330,000 visitors each year to enjoy an impressive visitor centre, cafes, sailing club, cycle hire, playgrounds, more than ten miles of marked trails, and our nationally renowned fly fishery.

Why volunteer at Grafham Water?

As a volunteer at Grafham Water, you can help us maintain and improve this beautiful landscape and facilities, increasing its value both for visitors and wildlife.

With opportunities ranging from gardening, litter picking, and assisting with path surfacing to fencing, vegetation management, and the upkeep of our beautiful park there are many ways you can help.

As a token of our appreciation, you’ll receive an annual car parking pass for Grafham Water Park, plus free refreshments to keep you going whilst you work!

What kind of tasks need doing?

Volunteering opportunities are flexible to suit your availability.

We have a gardening volunteer group which meet every Tuesday at 9am at the Visitor Centre. A bank clearance group which meet every other Monday throughout the winter months plus other opportunities such as litter picking at a time and date to suit you. Working all over the reservoir, tasks really do vary week by week and season by season.

It would be great if you could come along, have fun, meet new people and learn some new skills - there are plenty of challenges to get stuck into.

Some of the things we tackle include:

  • Gardening
  • Vegetation clearance
  • Improving site presentation
  • Litter picking
  • Fencing
  • Upgrading visitor facilities
  • Access track improvements

We provide all the tools and any safety equipment you’ll need but bring warm clothes, waterproofs, walking boots - preferably steel toe-capped - and something to eat and drink.

Fishing, walking, cycling, water sports

Our water parks not only bring vital water resources for the region, but they also provide a fantastic day out for all the family.

Whether you're looking for an action-packed day on the water, a spot of fishing to escape the stresses and strains of everyday life, or simply want to enjoy a relaxing walk in beautiful surroundings, look no further than our fabulous water parks.
