Alton Water Beach
Pack a picnic and your bucket and spade and head to Alton Water beach
Please bear in mind the beach is seasonal and is only operational in the summer months.
Our beach area is located between our Watersports Centre and The Dam. You can use either car park and it's just a short walk to access the beach from either of these points. Shower facilities are available to wash after going in the water and you can use the toilets and changing facilities at the Watersports Centre if you wish.
When can I visit?
2024 season opening times
(For mobile devices please rotate your phone to view)
Please stay out of the water outside the designated opening periods.
Please note that the beach bathing operating hours area may change or close at short notice due to bad weather, maintenance or ground works.
Who can visit the beach?
Everyone! Except dogs. There are plenty of other dog-friendly locations at Alton Water for your pooch to enjoy!
For your safety:
The safety of visitors to our beach is important to us. Which is why we have trained lifeguards on watch throughout the summer season. We also regularly check the wind speed and direction as well as water temperature throughout the summer season to ensure the conditions are right.
We have also posted safety signage around the beach – do be sure to pay attention to it – it’s important!
View our beach safety signage, including what the different flags mean, below.
Where can we get food and drink?
The nearest cafe is located at the Watersports Centre where you'll find refreshments.
On Fridays and Saturdays we are open until 7pm and serve pizza.
More information on our cafes can be found here
